Eight
students who obtained higher marks at the 2011 Grade 05 Scholarship
Examination were awarded scholarships by the 511 Brigade in collaboration
with a Sri Lankan expatriate living in UK.
A ceremony in this regard was held at the J / Atchuvely St. Theresa
Girls’ School on Sunday (26) morning with participation of General
Officer Commanding 51 Division Brigadier Piyal Wickramaratne as
Chief Guest.
The 511 Brigade selected 8 students from low-income families in
Atchuvely area for those scholarships and requested Dr. Siva Sivanesan
of Atchuvely and presently living in UK to help those children financially
to continue their education.
On that request, Dr. Siva Sivanesan and his wife who is also a doctor
agreed to give monthly allowance of Rs. 1000/= to each student for
a period of one year.
Meanwhile,
the Brigade organized a donation of a pack of nutritious food,
baby soap and baby cream for 50 expecting mothers at Atchuvely
with assistance of the Kopay Lions’ Club on the same occasion.
A wheelchair
to a disable aged person and an artificial limb to another needy
person were also donated during the function.
