Southern
Commander of the Indian Army Lieutenant General A.K. Singh during
his one day visit to Jaffna met the Commander Security Forces -
Jaffna (SF-J) Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe on Tuesday (13)
morning at Palaly.
Lt. Gen.
Singh and his entourage comprising Colonel N. Subramaniam, Military
Assistant and Captain (Navy) Anil Kapoor, Defence Attaché
of the Indian High Commission in Colombo were received by the
General Officer Commanding 51 Division Brig. Piyal Wickramaratne
at the Palaly airport.
On arrival
in the Headquarters SF-J, Maj. Gen. Hathurusinghe welcomed the
visiting Indian Army Southern Commander and explained about the
Security situation and the effort being taken by the Army to maintain
good relations with the civil society for lasting peace. De-mining
at the verge of completion, resettlement of IDPs already completed,
welfare measures being executed by the Army for civilians, livelihood
projects initiated by the Army for reintegrated ex-LTTE combatants
and the government development programmes in Jaffna earned good
remarks of the visiting Indian General.
He also met
the Governor Northern Province Major General (Retd) G.A. Chandrasiri
and visited the Nallur Kanthaswamy Temple and the Jaffna Fort
before leaving for the rest of his itinerary.
