Annual Athletics Championship End Successfully

The finals of the Athletics Meet of Security Forces - Jaffna was held at the Duraiappah Stadium in Jaffna on Saturday 2nd November 2019. The Athletics meet was conducted under the guidance and instructions of Commander Security Forces - Jaffna, Major General Ruwan Wanigasooriya, in order to uplift hidden capabilities of the soldiers serving in the Jaffna peninsula and provide a platform to elevate them to the National standards. The Headquarters of Forward Maintenance Area (North) organized the Athletics meet and the competitions were judged by members of the Sri Lanka Army Athletic committee. Further, school 'Relay Teams' of both boys and girls in Jaffna took part in the invitation relay which was colourful and complementary to the grand finale.

The overall championship was secured by 55 Division while the Men's Tug of War was won by the 52 Division. The Headquarters Security Forces - Jaffna Team emerged Overall Champions among the Women's teams. The Best Athlete of Men's event was Private Rohan JHIJ of the 10th Battalion of the Vijayabahu Infantry Regiment. The Best Athlete of Women's events was Private Wijerathne WGPS of the 7th Battalion of Sri Lanka Army Women's Corps.

Commander Security Forces - Jaffna distributed the awards and certificates along with the Government Agent of Jaffna, Secretary of Education, Cultural Affairs, Sports and Youth Affair of Northern Province, Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police - Northern Province, General Officer Commanding (GOC) 55 Division, Commander Forward Maintenance Area (North), GOCs of 51 and 52 Divisions, Brigadier General Staff Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna, Commanding Officer Sri Lanka Air Force Station - Palaly. A large number of Senior Military Officers including Brigadier Admin and Quartering Security Forces Headquarters - Jaffna, Government Officials, Officers of the sister services and Police were also present at the occasion while the Duraiappah Stadium was filled to capacity with enthusiastic supporters representing the competing teams
