Handing Over Urani Kanista Vidyalaya to Students

The land including the building of Urani Kanista Vidyalaya in Urani which was occupied by the Security Forces during the time of the conflict was handed over to the Additional District Secretary Jaffna by Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander Security Force (Jaffna) on 4 September 2017 in view of facilitating the education of children in the area. The ceremony was held with the participation of Major General Mervyn Perera, General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Mr. S Muralitharan, Additional District Secretary Land, Mr. S Sivasri, Divisional Secretary of the Tellippalai, Officials of the Educational Department in Jaffna, Senior Military Officers, soldiers and civilians.
A Newly Constructed House for Mr. R.M. Ramesh

A newly constructed house was handed over to Mr. R.M. Ramesh and his family with the financial assistance of Mr. Than who lives in Singapore. The donation was coordinated by Ven. Thalagala Sumanarathana Thero and the construction work was carried out under the supervision of Brigadier Aruna Muhandiram, General Officer Commanding of 55 Division. The handover ceremony was held on 01 September 2017 with the participation of Ven. An awareness programme on "Dengue" was conducted by National Dengue Control Unit for Tri Forces serving in Jaffna, Kilinochchi and Mannr Districts on 24 August 2017 at the auditorium of Headquarters Security Force, Jaffna. The Programme was organized by Headquarters Security Force (Jaffna) on the direction of Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander SF (J) with the aim of educating security personnel on "How to identify the most vulnerable Dengue mosquito breeding places and how to destroy them". Same time, they were educated on "How to minimize the outbreak of Dengue in order to prevent Dengue". A significant milestone was achieved on 30 June 2017 with the official handover of upgrading health facilities in Velanai Rural Hospital and Chankanai Divisionala Hospital in Jaffna with the assistance of troops of Security Force Jaffna.
This project placed emphasis on development initiatives to improve the quality of life for conflict affected returnee communities, particularly in the North. Resettled communities have undergone significant challenges associated with lack of suitable infrastructure, in particular in the health sector. The support provided by Sri Lanka Army contributed greatly to lessen some of these challenges, which in turn contributed to enhance the living standards of the civil community.................

Besides, religious dignitaries, Staff Officers of 55 Division, Commanding Officers of respective battalions, government officials of Point-Pedro area were present at the occasion. Approximately 3000 civilians enjoyed the dinner at the Dansala.A significant feature of the event was the displaying of Jathaka Story related to Lord Buddha. The civilians appreciated the efforts of the Army troops in Thikkam which indicted the peaceful co-existence of the Army and the people in Point-Pedro area.

Troops of 23 Gemunu Watch under Command to 552 Brigade organized a ‘Poson Dansala’ on 09 June 2017 evening for all communities in Pallai area in the close proximity of pallai Town. It was declared open by Major General Anura Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding 55 Division, as the Chief Guest. Moreover, religious dignitaries, Staff Officers, Commanding Officers of respective battalions were present at the occasion. Approximately 3000 civilians enjoyed the dinner at the Dansala.
At the same time army troops donated dry ration packs to 10 needy families (each worth of Rs.2000/-) who are living in Pallai area. Further, 7 stationary packs were also donated to the students of 7 families in the same area.
Jaffna Troops Celebrate Poson Poya

Several military formations under Security Force Headquarters Jaffna organized a series of events to celebrate the Poson Full Moon Poya Day on which Buddhism was introduced to Sri Lanka. Among those events, Dansal organized by the 51, 52 and 55 Divisions catered lunch for more than 1500 civilians. A charm Bodhi Puja was organized symbolizing the simple living style preached by the Lord Buddha's Doctrine, under the directives of Commander Security Force Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi at the Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna), Palaly Bo Maluwa on Thursday (8) evening.In the meantime, troops of 1 Mechanized Infantry Regiment under Command to 553 Brigade organized a ‘Poson Dansala’ for all communities in Iyakkachchi area on Thursday (8) Morning. The 'Dansala' was declared open by Colonel Shantha Herath, Commander Mechanized Brigade and catered breakfast and lunch for civilians.

Responding to a request made by the officials of Jaffna Teaching Hospital, a blood donation campaign was organized by the Headquarters Security Force, Jaffna in coordination with 4 Sri Lanka Army Medical Corps on 08 and 09 June 2017 at the hospital premises. During the campaign, 110 Army personnel serving under Security Force, Jaffna area of responsibility donated blood to fulfill the urgent requirement of blood for the patients waiting for surgeries. The campaign was organized on the directives of Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, the Commander Security Force, Jaffna. Doctor M. Sivanija and Doctor J. Thavaraja with their staff assisted in the campaign to make it a success.

Ms Jennifer Hart, the Political and Trade Counsellor of the High Commission of Canada visited the Headquarters Security Force, Jaffna on 05 June 2017. Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander Security Force, Jaffna extended a warm welcome to the visiting diplomat and explained the present situation in the Jaffna Peninsula during the discussion. Ms Jennifer Hart placed her signature on the Visitors' Book to mark her memorable visit to Jaffna.

Meditation Programme at Security Force Headquarters Jaffna

A meditation programme was organized by Security Force Headquarters (Jaffna) for officers and soldiers who are serving in the Jaffna Peninsula in order to enhance their spiritual life. The programme was conducted by Professor Lalith Ranathunga from 30th May 2017 to 02nd June 2017 at the Headquarters Security Force (Jaffna).
During the programme, troops were educated on the teachings of the Lord Buddha and emphasized the necessity of meditation for a healthy and a peaceful life. Moreover, the participants of the programme were very enthusiastic to understand the outcome of meditation and most of the participants requested to repeat the programme in the future too ............
Maliyadewa Boys' College on an Educational Tour to Jaffna Peninsula

The students of Kurunegala Maliyadewa Boys' College paid an educational visit to the Jaffna Peninsula on 26 and 27 May 2017. The educational tour was arranged by the Commander Security Force Jaffna, Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, as a response to the request made by the principal of the college. 575 student of grade 10/11 and 21 teachers participated in the tour. And they visited very important historic places and popular areas in the peninsular such as Nagadeepa, Dambakola Patuna and the ancient Jaffna Fort. Their accommodation, meals and other facilities had been arranged by Army personnel serving in Jaffna...........

Awareness Programme held at HQ SF (J), on "Disasters Management"

An awareness programme was conducted for the Tri Forces personnel serving in the Security Force Jaffna Area of Responsibility. The programme was held at the auditorium of Headquarters Security Force (Jaffna) on 25th and 26th May 2017. The workshop covered different sections of disaster management and included an in-depth training on the Recommended Practices developed for floods and droughts. The workshop was brought together by a team of professionals of the Disaster Management Centre, Ministry of Health, the Department of Meteorology, the National Building Research Organization and the National Disaster Relief Services Centre. The opening ceremony was presided by Major General Anura Wanniarachchi, General Officer Commanding (GOC), 52 Division.
Troops of 11 SLLI Protected 'Karei Nagar, Kovalam Paddy' from Wildfire

Troops of 11 Sri Lanka Light Infantry was able to protect 'Kovalam Paddy' in Karei Nagar Island from wild fire with the support of 100 soldiers on 17th May 2017. Approximately 2 acres of land have been destroyed due to the wildfire. Such an incident occurred for the first times in this year. Civilians highly appreciated the effort taken by military personnel to stop the wildfire and protect their land. ................
'Palmyra Ingenuity - 2017' Ends Successfully

'Palmyra Ingenuity - 2017' the innovation exhibition which was held on 17th and 18th May 2017 at the Weerasinham Hall in Jaffna, ended successfully. Thousands of students from schools and universities, teachers, civilians, Tri Forces and Police personnel had visited the exhibition during the two days.
The Prize Giving ceremony of the exhibition was held on the 18th May 2017 evening with cultural events and Dr. Mahesh Edirisinghe, Commissioner Sri Lanka Inventors Commission, Minister of Science, Technology and Research participated in the event................

Headquarters Security Force Jaffna in its effort on Reconciliation process has initiated a range of community programmes to ensure sustainable peace in the Jaffna Peninsula. Accordingly, the Security Force Headquarters (J) organized "Palmyra Ingenuity - 2017", an innovation exhibition with the view of transforming imagination into innovation. The two days exhibition started today (17th May 2017) at the Weerasingham Hall, Jaffna in collaboration with the Ministry of Technology and Research. The event was inaugurated by Major General Darshana Hettiarachchi, Commander SF (J), on the invitation of the chief organizer Brigadier Adeepa Thilakarathna, Commander 552 Brigade. Rear Admiral De Silva, Commander Northern Naval Area, Brigadier Marvyn Perera, General Officer Commanding 51 Division, Brigadier Sanath Perera, Commander FMA (North), Brigade Commanders, Senior Government Officials and Senior Officers.................
